WJBC Radio: Sen. Duckworth: Ending Iran deal reckless, GOP lawmakers applaud move
U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois is calling President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal as reckless, but two Central Illinois Republican lawmakers are praising the move.
Duckworth, a Democrat, said in a statement the 2015 agreement negotiated by the Obama Administration was far from perfect, but abandoning it threatens to destroy years of non-proliferation efforts, isolates the U.S. from its allies, and undermines U.S. efforts to use diplomacy to negotiate future agreements.
Republican Congressman Rodney Davis said in a statement that the deal was unverifiable because the Obama Administration went from ‘anytime, anywhere’ inspections to ‘self-inspections.’
GOP Congressman Adam Kinzinger said the deal was terrible for the U.S., and provided a treasure trove for the Iranian regime to fund terrorists.
Kinzinger wants the Trump Administration to come up with a comprehensive plan to hold Iran accountable and firmly restrict Iran’s ballistic missile weapons and nuclear program.
